New 3D scenery for X-Plane 11

Post by BobSturm »

As a new airport scenery artist for X-Plane 11, I had my first 3D airport approved. It is KCMX, Houghton County Memorial airport in Hancock Michigan. All of us artist (as we are called) are upgrading all of the older, default 2D scenery to 3D; modifying the airports as needed and adding 3D objects. As these airports are completed, they are incorporated into future upgrades. However they are also available for download at any time from the X-Plane Scenery Gateway https://gateway.x-plane.com/airports/page. I am currently working on Dillingham, AK (PADL). The only real drawback is that we are required to use X-Plane scenery objects, which are somewhat limited compared to the third part object libraries that are currently becoming available. It is because our airports will be included with future releases. We are hoping that Laminar will expand their object libraries as they continually upgrade X-Plane.

Bob,

Thanks for all of your efforts on X-Plane scenery. We can only hope that we can customize
to the level that we have in FSX.

Your efforts in X-plane are appreciated.

Thanks Mark. As I stated in another post awhile back, I would be willing to work at customizing X-Plane airports for WestWind but I would need someone to creat the WestWind logo and signage as X-Plane objects. I know basically what the process is, I'm just not proficient with the design software, such as Photo Shop, GIMP and Sketchup. If anyone is willing to work that part of it, PM me and we will start work.

I just had another X-Plane 11 airport approved for inclusion in later updates. It is DIllingham Alaska, PADL. The version currently included with 11.40 is 2D. I have made a 3D version. It is available for download at the x-Plane scenery gateway web site.
