X-Plane 11 Default 747-400

Post by wwa659 »

I discovered a bug in the Default 747 in X-Plane 11, where the Frame Rates in the sim will drop after a few hours of flight. In my case, it was around the 3 1/2 to 4-hour mark on a 6-hour flight. The Frame Rates dropped from 40+ down to 10-15 frames and never recovered. I had to shut down the sim and restart my computer to get things back to normal. So Far this is the only aircraft that has displayed this issue. X-Plane developers acknowledge the bug, but state they do not have the time to look into what is causing the issue on long haul flights. However, they did say to continue to send in the bug reports with as much information as possible.

In searching the internet on this issue I found a project called "YesAviation 747" that claims to fix the memory leak causing the frame rate issue with this aircraft. So far my tests support that claim. This group appears to be doing for the 747 what at Zibo did for the 737. This project is still in the very early stages of development. I am hopeful this project will take off as well as the Zibo 737 did.

Here is the link to the updated 747 https://github.com/YesAviation/747-400 I am in contact with the development team and hope to secure permission for Westwind to ether host or use this aircraft in our X-Plane 11 hanger at some point down the road.

Thanks Sean. I have not ventured into the 747 yet. After flying the Zibo 737 and the Flight Factor 757 I find the default airliners rather boring. Had I flown the 747 I probably never would have run across that issue since I rarely make flight that long.

Yes, I normally don't make flights that long either but decided to try and kill two or three birds with one stone and ending up not even getting one. Usually when I make flights that long I use time compression during the cruise phase to shorten the time frame. I will be making a Westwind Paint for the queen in X-Plane 11.
