Salty 747 vs. SSG 747?

Post by WWA3293 »

I do all of my flying in MSFS, but thanks to repainting and X-Plane 12 development notes I am highly considering X-Plane 12 (the full version).

Hopefully FlightFactor will release the 777 and 787 one day (likewise for MSFS, the PMDG 777). I made my first purchase, the SSG 747-8. I am primarily a Boeing guy and usually would put my money in Boeing airliners first. And maybe the Concorde (the one for MSFS by DC Designs isn’t really my cup of tea but granted I never owned it).

I guess my question is, if you have flown both the Salty 747 and the SSG 747, which one do you like better, and why? I’ve flown the Salty 747 for MSFS, and I wasn’t exactly blown away by it like the FBW A320neo (especially the FMC).

X-Plane 11 is my primary sim and there is a mod called msparks 747 available here https://github.com/mSparks43/747-400 and does the same thing as the Salty 747 did in MSFS which is to modify the default Laminar 747 making a little more like the real aircraft. I feel that the X-Plane blade theory of flight dynamics or physics makes any aircraft handle more realistically. so I prefer X-Plane over MSFS to begin with

I also have the SSG 747 but that is payware and I do expect more from payware developers in my opinion the SSG 747 delivered and is better than either the sparky or Salty mods.

I am strictly X-Plane, so I'm not familiar with the Salty 747. Early on I purchased the SSG 747, and especially liked the fact that I got the Freighter and Passenger versions as a all-in-one purchase. I love flying that aircraft, as you can tell if you see any of my hub reports. Also, SSG was quick to upgrade both to XP12, which I just purchased last week. It is the only one of my aircraft that has upgraded. Made my first flight with it in XP12 with no issues.

I just downloaded the Sparky 747 for XP-11. I will give it a try this weekend and let you know what I think of it. I also downloaded the XP12 version and see how that goes, although the XP12 beta is pretty buggy particularly with third party aircraft.

I just completed a flight with the Sparky 747-400. Very nice aircraft. If that had been available at the time I purchased the SSG 747-8, I probably would not have made that purchase. It has a full FMC which include ground services/handling. Startup is more complex than the SSG, primarily because the SSG has automated many of the startup procedures (Switches pre-set).
