Thanks. I'll take a look at this. I used to fly vatsim on FSX. Haven't tried it on XPlane yet.

I switched from XSquawkbox to XPilot and the only thing that bit me was to ensure that you do have the com selected in the audio panel in the aircraft or you'll not see the R lightup for the frequency in XPilot even though T will be lit up. So I added enabling the com on the audio panel as part of my cold and dark procedures.

I had been using Swift but I thought I would give the xPilot client a try.
The install was infinitely easier with xPilot than with Swift, much more user friendly.
But it was more picky about my sim’s framerates and booted me any time the fps dropped to 19, which it was doing a lot in heavy clouds. I turned off weather to Cavok and then had no issues. So if your fps is solid above 30 even in clouds you will be fine. If not do some graphics tweaking or lose the clouds.

For those low frame rates in X-Plane 11 make sure you are running with Vulkan turned on in the graphics settings. That jumped my frame rate by 10-15 fps and avoided this issue.

Yes I have an old graphics card and need to update, but getting a newer card is really difficult at the moment.
